Wichita County Court Calendars Explained
Wichita County does not publish one county-wide daily or weekly docket PDF. Settings live in three places. These are the Odyssey Search Hearings route, the case docket itself, and each coordinator's working calendar. The 30th, 78th, and 89th District Courts handle felonies plus district civil and family matters. County Court at Law #1 and #2 keep their own county-level calendars.
Justice Courts and Municipal Courts are separate systems. A Wichita Falls ticket stays a municipal matter no matter what county it sits in. A Burkburnett-area JP case may belong to JP 2. A city-issued ticket may belong to Burkburnett Municipal Court. Your citation or notice tells you which calendar applies.
Search Wichita County Hearings Online
The county Odyssey dashboard splits its tools into Search Hearings, Smart Search, and Make Payments. Search Hearings answers the question of a future setting. Smart Search is the better tool for one job. Use it when you first need to find a case and read its docket. Payments answer a different question entirely. Treat them as a way to resolve a fine, not as a full calendar.
- Read the notice for the case number, assigned court, and last known date.
- Open Search Hearings and enter the case number or the criteria the live screen offers.
- Open the likely setting and compare the case number, court, date, time, room, judge, and setting type.
- Review the docket for a later reset, continuance, or signed setting notice.
- Call the assigned coordinator if the result conflicts with a notice or has changed recently.
The portal's dropdown fields require exact values, so never guess. Screens built with JavaScript and access controls may not load for every visitor. If the page fails, call the coordinator. That office can confirm an active date fastest.
Finding Your Court Date
A complete Wichita County setting lists enough detail to tell it apart from another event in the same case. Have the case number ready when you call. For felony scheduling that involves appointed counsel, the Court Administrator schedules and monitors cases across all three District Courts.
| Case Number | The exact court identifier printed on the notice or docket |
|---|---|
| Date and Time | The active setting, checked against any later reset |
| Courtroom | The assigned room or court location |
| Judge or Court | The 30th, 78th, 89th, County Court at Law, JP, or Municipal Court |
| Setting Type | Arraignment, announcement, pretrial, motion hearing, trial, plea, sentencing, or review |
A city or Justice Court case that never appears in the county screen has not vanished. Those courts keep their own dockets. Contact the lower court directly. The Wichita County case lookup explains the full venue and clerk routing method.
Wichita County Coordinator Lines
Every numbered court keeps its own active calendar. The official court pages post direct lines for each one. For a question like whether tomorrow's hearing is still set, a coordinator beats a general records request every time.
| Court | Room | Phone |
|---|---|---|
| 30th District Court | 360 | 940-766-8180 |
| 78th District Court | 314 | 940-766-8182 |
| 89th District Court | 300 | 940-766-8184 |
| County Court at Law #1 | 201 | 940-766-8107 |
| County Court at Law #2 | 353 | 940-766-8111 |
These offices sit at 900 7th Street in Wichita Falls. Call the District Clerk and Court Administrator line at 940-766-8100, option 5. Have four things ready. Give the case number, the assigned court, your party role, and the last date you know. A coordinator confirms scheduling; a clerk supplies filed records and certified docket material.
How to Read a Court Setting
A setting label describes the purpose of the appearance, not the final outcome. An arraignment deals with the charge and the plea process. An announcement docket or docket call has one role. It lets counsel report readiness or ask for the next step. A pretrial conference may involve motions, discovery, plea talks, or readiness. A status conference is just a progress check. It is not automatically a trial.
Motion hearing means a hearing on one specific request. Plea setting is a criminal disposition setting if the matter resolves. Jury trial and bench trial name who decides the case. Sentencing follows a plea or verdict. A review hearing checks compliance or a prior order. A reset or continuance moves the event.
"Hearing held" does not prove any trial happened. A reset is not a dismissal either. Read the entries in date order and hunt for the most recent notice or order.
Current Wichita County Setting
The docket is the historical register. The coordinator's calendar shows what remains set today. An old hearing can linger on the docket after a continuance. A later entry, a new notice, or a signed order usually explains the move. When two sources disagree, ask the coordinator which date controls.
Before traveling: confirm the court, date, time, room, and whether the appearance is in person or remotely authorized.
Wichita County sets no uniform reset-notice period or posting horizon that binds every court. Timing varies by judge, case, and order. A missing web entry grants no permission to skip a date on a signed notice.
Continuances, Resets, and Cancellations
Only the court's authority changes a setting. A party cannot create a reset by phoning the clerk or leaving a message. Deciding an online entry looks stale changes nothing. Follow the signed order, the notice, and instructions from the assigned court or counsel. The latest valid setting controls. But only the court can settle a conflict.
When a date moves, write down both the old and new entries. That preserves the chronology. It also helps the coordinator spot the change. If the portal drops an event without showing its replacement, call. Municipal and JP matters go to that court's clerk, not the District Clerk. For a certified history of settings, ask the clerk. Ask for the public docket record.
Remote Wichita County Hearings
Several District Court and County Court at Law pages in Wichita County post YouTube or remote-hearing links. Watching a hearing that way can work. Appearing that way is another matter. A posted link alone does not give anyone permission to appear remotely, so confirm the judge's instructions on the page for your assigned court before relying on it.
Court types here also follow different rules. Wichita Falls Municipal Court holds its not-guilty trials in open court and in person, with no telephone or virtual trial option at all. A District Court link tells you nothing about a municipal citation. Test any approved technology ahead of time. Use the exact meeting information the court provides. Keep the coordinator's number handy in case something goes wrong.
Commissioners Court Is Different
Wichita County Commissioners Court gathers on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m., and the county page posts the Zoom details. But that body runs county government, not case dockets. Its calendar covers budgets and administrative business, so it will not carry a felony setting, a lawsuit, a probate matter, or a traffic citation from the Search Hearings calendar.
| Calendar | What it covers | Where to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Case hearing | A party’s judicial matter | Odyssey and assigned court coordinator |
| Commissioners Court | County administrative agenda | Official Commissioners Court page and agenda |
| Municipal or JP setting | City or precinct case | The named lower court |
Seeing the word “court” in a meeting title does not put that meeting on any individual case docket. Match the calendar you check to the court named on your filing or notice.
If You Miss a Court Setting
Call your lawyer or the assigned court right away. Have the case number, the missed date, the court, and a phone number where you can be reached. After that, look at the docket. Check for a failure-to-appear entry, a warrant, bond action, a new setting, or an order. What actually follows depends on the court and the case.
Missed a setting? A missed date can lead to a warrant, bond forfeiture, default, dismissal, or another court order, depending on the matter.
Do not assume that a web search reschedules the case; only the court can set the next step.
Consult a licensed attorney about a missed Wichita County setting before appearing if arrest, bond, or default may be involved.
A city ticket belongs to that Municipal Court. Call it directly. For a JP matter, phone the precinct listed on the citation. District Court and County Court at Law questions go to the coordinator table above. Reach out fast. That gives the court its best chance to explain where things stand and what you must do next.
Confirm Wichita County Court Dates
Check two things before you rely on any court date in Wichita County. One is the newest docket entry, written or online. The other is the office that runs the live calendar. When you call, write down who confirmed the setting. Note the date of the call. Note what you were told to do. A remote appearance means saving the court link and meeting details with your case notice. If you must appear in person, confirm the room number too, not just the street address.
New filings bring one quirk: the online docket may lag. An entry can be absent even though a hearing is set. Older settings carry the opposite risk. A continuance, reset, or later order may have moved things. The clerk can hand you the filed record itself. The court coordinator assigned to the case answers the scheduling question of the moment. Wichita County splits its calendar and record duties that way. Checking both keeps you from mistaking an old docket event for the appearance now required of you.
